Irrigation Department - Government of Sindh

The Sindh Irrigation Department controls operations and maintenance of the irrigation canals and its allied structures including barrages, regulators and flood protection systems. Under its terms of references, the department is responsible for the regulation of flows in river Indus and associated canal systems in the province of Sindh.

Execution of development schemes and mega projects including canal lining and development of dams for storage, recharge and irrigation measures are among other major responsibilities.

Detailed basins wide studies include development of small dams schemes in Kohistan areas of Sindh and has remain a major impetus of the department in recent past. Subsequently quite many small to medium size dams schemes have been launched by the department to recharge and rehabilitate the water resources in the localized regions.
